ok so after playing gears of war, i got kinda sick of it and went back to playing elder scrolls: oblivion. comparatively speaking, oblivion is an aston martin db9 compared to gears of war's bmw m6. the m6 is a wonderful car, but it's not on the level of a db9. oblivion is a HUGE game and there's so much exploring and great quests and it's very player friendly. the detail is insane and the story just gets better and better. but the beauty of the game is - you don't have to stick with the plot - you can do anything and everything whenever you want. it's a lot of fun. of course oblivion and GoW are two completely different games. as someone who appreciates both genres, i like oblivion better, but if you hate fantasy type plots and knights and stuff like that, stick to GoW. btw i have an lcd monitor now so oblivion doesn't make me sick anymore.

gears of war is an awesome game. apart from giving my computer the blue screen of death every now and then, it runs great and is super pretty. but yeah the PC version has a few bugs that need to be fixed. lots of mindless shooting and explosions, and it's nice to listen to with the full orchestral Die Hard-esque soundtrack.
A+!
i have been sleeping like it's my job. it's so nice to catch up on this, after having gone for a max of 6 hrs a night for the past 3 weeks. i need at least 8 hrs to function semi-normally, 13 hrs to be in top form ;)
got all the shopping done. we went to this big ass mall near my parents' house on saturday and i went to town. miraculously, it took my dad 3 minutes upon entering the lot to find parking. and this mall attracts everyone from the philadelphia area so parking is notoriously awful. there were cops in the lot directing traffic, it was that bad. so kudos to dad!
since, i've pretty much been passed out on my bed, eating, playing PS2, or reading a book about stephen hawking that my friend lent to me. as interesting as that book is, it pretty much starts the cycle of sleeping, eating, PS2, reading, sleeping, etc. of course that's b/c i read lying down so it's inevitable.
my sis and i made the rum cake. it was good. but we didn't know where the electric mixer was, and no matter how long we hand-mixed it, there were lumps. so we had to pour the batter in small batches into this tiny food processor (for nuts) to blend it, resulting in batter all over the floor and on my pants, and somehow on the drapes, which hasn't been noticed yet. what a mess! at least the cake is awesome.
yawning again. all this sleep and i can hardly go a few hours without thinking of a nap. we had a discussion last night about the prevalence of electricity resulting in less sleep. there were some studies done of french and eastern european peoples in the 19th and early 20th centuries that found that prior to having electricity, they would sleep when the sun went down and arose when it came up. it wasn't unusual to have 2 sleep periods where people would wake in the middle of the night, hang out, eat, whatever, then go back to sleep. but the essence was that everyone got a lot more sleep back then. we need to return to those days. and i think i need a nap right now.
exams are about as exciting to me as watching a hip replacement operation, except i'm the patient and there's no anesthetic. to my friend, they are like having a full day of colonoscopies and prostate exams. in essence, exams are something to look forward to. i am so angry that they are almost over. please let me study more! i'll do anything!
i heard some interesting news today that could bode well if i bide my time. oh i will be biding, plus i have a plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel.

next week is holiday party bonanza. but we kicked things off early today when someone passed around a homemade rum cake. i had a slice. that mess was so strong it would have given me a d.u.i. it was good though. somehow or other the recipe wound up in my mailbox:

right before today's flight to SF, H blogged about not having been hungover on an airplane before. DON'T DO IT! even a total masochist would hate that. i flew back from cali once sick as a dog and it was the worst 5 hours of my life. i wouldn't wish that on the most vicious nazi alive. so H, i hope you are not yakking in your hotel room right now, but if you are, i hope this is only b/c you were able to hold it in on the airplane.
uugh so i was pwned by last night's hotpot. maybe it was whatever was in me, roger, rob and nicole's pot 'o gold. though the experience of hanging out with everybody was definitely enjoyable. waiting in the cold certainly made the food taste better. and speaking of cold, it's like 30 degrees here but the radiator in my apt which unfailingly becomes the furnace of hell in 50 degree weather is not working currently. hells bells. well i will be in DC soon and i'm sure there will be heat in my lovely hotel room. i can think of nothing right now but sinking into a swirling hot jacuzzi. i have to get my nails done today and the hair chopped so a hand and shoulder massage will have to hold me over until tomorrow. hopefully this time amtrak will stay on the track.
